Rapid application development is this flexible

How pleasant it is when applications can be customized and refined, even after launching, without involvement of a developer? Very pleasant in our experience! In this blog, therefore, everything about rapid application development.

To show the benefits of rapid application development (RAD) in combination with a low-code platform, we take you step by step through the process of RAD.

1. Business modeling

The first step in developing new applications is of course to determine the usefulness and necessity. Which processes are suitable for automation? Where is the potential impact and where can your organization improve itself?

2. Data modeling

Once you have distilled these workflows, you can start collecting the required data. View which data streams you want to use to run a specific process and determine how many transaction tables you need to make on that basis.

3. Process modeling

In process modeling phase, you accurately map out the business process for which you are developing an application. This is where the low-code platform comes around the corner. The end user doesn’t work with raw data (like you would in Excel), but with a form that contains automatic dropdowns and smart searches. This form is placed over the data. By automating this step in the process, any errors are easily eliminated.

4. Creating the application

We mention this step as it is part of the traditional RAD cycle, but we can immediately disregard it when using our low-code platform. The application is already there: that is the platform. Since the infrastructure of the platform is standardized, it forms the application basis for all your workflows. Within this base, the best location is automatically assigned to all desirable processes.

5. Test and optimize

If you manage your processes only on paper, in Excel or via email, then optimization is practically impossible. Without knowledge about data and processing times, processes can hardly be optimized. The value creation of RAD starts here, by continuously analyzing results and lead time, both in the test phase and in production.

The test environment of the Onventis low-code workflow automation platform is an exact replica of the product environment and offers us the possibility to come up with new features for every conceivable application. New updates, upgrades and features are introduced directly into the test environment and further developed in co-creation with our users to optimize the processes.

If, therefore, it turns out that a feature does not produce the result that we had anticipated in advance, we can just as easily stop it – after all, it was only in the test environment. In this way, co-creation becomes a much more accessible in collaboration with Onventis.
